Sam asked

Hi I am taking Valtrex and minocycline. I now have a yeast infection and want to take 100 mg of flucanozole. Is it safe to take all of these drugs at the same time?

Answer

Multiple Pill BottlesThere are no interactions between Valtrex (valacyclovir), minocycline and Diflucan (fluconazole). They are considered safe to take together.

It should be noted however that they do share some common side effects, including gastrointestinal upset and nausea. Taking all of them together (or close to each other) can increase the risk of:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach cramping

Valtrex (valacyclovir), minocycline and Diflucan (fluconazole) can all be taken with food, which might minimize the side effects. However, be sure to avoid certain minerals such as iron, aluminum, magnesium, or calcium-containing products. These can decrease minocycline absorption, making it less effective.
