Beth asked

Is it OK to take Buspar (buspirone) with phentermine?

Answer

There are no reported drug interactions between Buspar (buspirone) and phentermine.

Buspar is a commonly prescribed anti-anxiety medication (anxiolytic) and is used as a safer alternative to other anxiolytics, such as diazepam and lorazepam. It generally is very well tolerated, causes little to no drowsiness and is not linked to any sort of physical dependence.

Phentermine is used most often as a weight loss aid and has a similar effect to amphetamines.

In studies, both drugs have shown to have a minimal affect on the neurotransmitter serotonin, but it appears to be small and inconsequential in terms of a potential drug interaction. Running the combination of Buspar and phentermine through multiple drug and medical databases yielded no drug interaction reports.
