Answer

There is no known drug interaction between Chantix (Varenicline tartrate) and Soma (carisoprodol).[1][2]

They don't share many similar side effects either and are generally considered safe to take with one another. Below is some additional information about both drugs.

Chantix Info

Chantix (Varenicline) is a medication used to aid in smoking cessation (i.e. to quit smoking).

It is is a nicotine receptor agonist and occupies the same receptors that the nicotine from tobacco does. This helps with quitting smoking as the nicotine effects help with prevent withdrawal symptoms while also blocking the effects of nicotine if you were to 'slip-up' and have a cigarette or other related tobacco product.

The most common side effect of Chantix is nausea, with nearly 30% of individuals on the drug experiencing it. This is why it is generally recommended to take the drug after eating with a full glass of water.

An interesting point about Chantix is that it is largely unmetabolized in our bodies and therefore, has few clinically significant drug interactions. It is recommended however to limit alcohol consumption until they know whether the Chantix affects their tolerance.

Soma Info

Soma (Carisoprodol) is a controlled substance muscle relaxant. The prescribing information for Soma states that it should be used for no more than 2 to 3 weeks and at the lowest effective dose to reduce the risk of abuse and dependence.

It can be taken with or without food but may minimize stomach irritation.
