Answer

In most cases, it is perfectly safe to take a hot bath if you have the flu. As long as your fever (if you have one) is not at a dangerous temperature, hot baths can help with the following flu symptoms:

  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Nasal congestion
  • Insomnia (relaxation effects)
  • Chills

If you don't have a significant fever, bathing in hot water may even help fight your infection by your raising body temperature slightly.

It is important to remember to stay hydrated while battling the flu. Soaking in a hot bath for extended amount of time can potentially cause significant fluid loss due to sweating, so be sure that you are drinking plenty of water while you are soaking and throughout the course of your illness.
